Both artists and children use ‘playing’ in order to realize themselves. With this in mind I focus my work in imaginary representations with children’s elements where I try to live moments of this realization. In this case when my work communicates with its audience the real unfolds narratives and applications to the imaginary.

 

Sofia Vlazaki was born in Khania- Crete in 1978. Y. Markantonakis in Khania and Argyris and Fotou and Stefos in Athens were her first teachers in Painting and Drawing.

From 1996 till 2000 she studied Fine Art: Painting at the Fine Art School of Cardiff in Wales. During the academic year 2000- ’01 she was teaching Painting at the Municipal Cultural Workshop of Khania.

She continued with postgraduate studies in Drawing (2001-’02- Wimbledon School of Art), in Illustration (2002- ’03- Plymouth College of Arts) and in Book Art (2003- ’04- Camberwell College of Arts). In 2003 she gains the Ferdynand Sweig travel scholarship to research Book Art in Tokyo.

She started to illustrate books in 2004 and in 2005 she became a tutor at T.E.I. of Athens where she teaches Book Illustration.

She has presented her work in solo and group shows in Greece, U.K. and Korea. Her work can be found in public and private collections.

She lives and works in Athens.
